Abstract Background Early cognitive models of mania posit that a cognitive triad consisting of unrealistically optimistic beliefs about the self, world and future may predispose vulnerable individuals to develop manic symptoms. Hypomanic personality traits (HYP) pose such a vulnerability factor in the etiopathogenesis of mania. An Algebraic Approach to Knowledge Representation

This paper is an attempt to apply domain-theoretic ideas to a new area, viz. knowledge representation. We present an algebraic model of a belief system. The model consists of an information domain of special kind (belief algebra) and a binary relation on it (entailment). It is shown by examples that several natural belief algebras are, essentially, algebras of flat records. With an eye on this, we characterise those domains and belief algebras that are isomorphic to domains or algebras of records. For illustration, we suggest a system of axioms for revision in such a model and describe an explicit construction of what could be called a maxichoise revision.

Exception-Tolerant Hierarchical Knowledge Bases for Forward Model Learning

This article provides an overview of the recently proposed forward model approximation framework for learning games of the general video game artificial intelligence (GVGAI) framework. In contrast to other general game-playing algorithms, the proposed agent model does not need a full description of the game but can learn the game's rules by observing game state transitions. Based on hierarchical knowledge bases, the forward model can be learned and revised during game-play, improving the accuracy of the agent's state predictions over time. The Stability Theory of Knowledge and Belief Revision: Comments on Rott

In this commentary on Rott’s paper “Stability, Strength and Sensitivity: Converting Belief into Knowledge”, I discuss two problems of the stability theory of knowledge which are pointed out by Rott. I conclude that these problems offer no reason for rejecting the stability theory, but might be grounds for deviating from the standard AGM account of belief revision which Rott presupposes.
